Simple to Use Software

McLane Software has developed and compiled a suite of software that covers the range of questions typically asked concerning soil and groundwater contamination (see Quantitative Conceptual Site Model figure). SILT is a simple-to-use spreadsheet model that calculates the leaching of a soil contaminant source to groundwater with mixing and dilution in shallow groundwater beneath the source.

Concentration time trends are important for analyzing plume behavior. While Mann–Kendall plots and statistics are often used, GWSDAT is an open-source, user-friendly tool for performing more advanced spatio-temporal data analyses. To estimate plume pump-and-treat cleanup time, the Orient CMR Model improves on the USEPA batch model by incorporating lithologic zone effects (e.g., slow elution from low-permeability zones).

More complete plume transport analyses can be performed using TS-CHEM, a software environment for calculating plume movement using one of over 30 analytical transport equation solutions, charting model results, calculating plume metrics, and visualizing the plume on a digital site map.
